Thrush problems
My horse has had thrush problems with his feet on and off for the last few years. It has recently come back quite severely with part of his frog on one foot sloughing off.
The advice has been to remove his shoes in attempt to get some compression into his frogs to aid recovery. If anyone has found any effective treatment for horses with thrush, I would be very interested in the details.

If it’s thrush, you might check this out:

But if I were you I’d also read about fungus, b/c apparently they are pretty similar but need different treatments:

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the links. I will have to read them again carefully as I recognise symptoms from both of the conditions ie the deep cleft when looking at the bottom of the leg and the casting of the frog. I will certainly follow up with both my blacksmith and vet to find out more about the best treatment option and do some more research on the web. We have taken his shoes off and are hoping to see some improvement soon.
