Cheltenham National Hunt Festival 2007
This will take place next Tuesday through Friday 13th - 16th March and the main races are:
Tuesday - Champion Hurdle
Wednesday - Champion Chase
Thursday - World Cup Hurdle
Friday - Gold Cup.
My favourite race is the Gold Cup which used to be held on Thursday when this was a three day event but is now on the last day of Friday. I expect Kauto Star will be a short favourite.
The going is always a key factor and at the weekend it was soft (heavy in places) so stamina will be important.
I always tried to have some time off work to watch this when I lived in the UK but I wasn’t very successful as it always seemed to be busy work-wise at this time of year. I’m not aware of any TV coverage in the US so I expect the best I will manage will be checking the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival 2007 results on the BBC Sport website. One day I’ll have to try to get a ticket to experience it in person!

There a some great horse event’s I’d like to see before I leave this world. I don’t know how many I’ll make but there seem to be more and more horse events hitting the television so maybe there’s hope I’ll get to see some of them that way at least.

The Cheltenham Festival is over for another year. 230,000 people attended over the four days.
When I looked through the runners of the main events, two horses stood out for me.
Inglis Drever who is trained near my home town and has been a regular winner. He ran in and won the World Hurdle on Thursday. This was his second win in the race. He won in 2005 but missed the race last year through injury. It appears he had also had injury problems this year so this was a great performance.
Kauto Star was running in the Gold Cup on Friday and won well, despite another last fence scare. I’m pleased that he lived up to expectations and he has a great future ahead off him.
