Kauto Star
There is a record entry of 49 horses for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. The entry getting most attention is a 7 year old called Kauto Star who is unbeaten in four races this season including a recent win in the King George Chase at Kempton over Xmas.
I was surprised to hear that this promising youngster is rated higher than one of the best horses of recent years, Best Mate, who won three consecutive Gold Cups 2002-4. I would expect that success over a number of years at the highest level to rate above an extremely promising youngster.

Kauto Star won again in mid-February despite a last fence blunder and remains favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in a few weeks time. Also last year’s winner War of Attrition has had to be withdrwan from the race due to a leg injury.
